The Sanderson family took ownership of the Old House at Home in the Autumn of 2025. Local to Newnham and with a passion for genuine hospitality and delicious food, husband and wife duo, Alan and Natalie invite you to experience the warmth of countryside life in a community-inspired setting.
Surrounded by gorgeous countryside in the heart of the charming village of Newnham, the Old House at Home (once known as the ‘sausage pub’ by locals) is a great place to visit before or after a scenic walk.
Inside you’ll find our cosy bar area with double aspect open fireplace, perfect for those chilly winter days. Our relaxed dining area and converted barn provide the perfect sanctuary to enjoy a delicious meal and drinks with friends and family. Well behaved dogs are also very welcome inside our pub.
Outside we have a large car park to the rear, a front terrace overlooking views of the village green and a rear courtyard, with twinkling lights and outdoor heating, perfect for relaxed summer evenings or cosy winter nights.
An all-round good egg with a passion for great food and fresh, high quality ingredients. Having founded his own successful catering business in the past and having worked in the cheese industry for several years, he has exceptional knowledge and links within the cheesemaking sector and has also catered for large-scale outdoor events and small festivals, with a penchant for ‘big pan’ outdoor cooking and slow-cooked smoked meats. When he’s not in the kitchen cooking up a storm, he’s also a keen sailor and enjoys cycling and relaxing coastal walks with his family and miniature schnauzer, Fergus.
Favourite food: A good ribeye steak on the bone (seasoned to perfection and cooked rare)
Favourite drink: Mai Thai
A public relations guru and fiction writer with almost three decades in hospitality PR. Natalie is an organiser, keen party planner and all-round people-person. She has hosted and event-managed small-scale live music festivals and outdoor events, and previously founded a catering company with husband, Alan. Natalie has also run her own successful PR agency for more than a decade, where she has managed media publicity for restaurants, confectioners, catering firms, hotels, hospitality technology and a range of food & beverage firms, to name a few. With a love of champagne and sparkling wine, she is keen to champion British vineyards at the Old House, showcasing some of the best English sparkling on the market. When she’s not writing she enjoys painting, reading and music.

A talented physicist and guitarist with a love of craft beer. When he’s home from university, you’ll find him behind the bar at the Old House, chatting to customers, pulling pints and serving our signature cocktails. Having worked behind the bar and front of house at a renowned multinational craft brewery, distillery and pub chain, as well as for a local Hampshire country pub, Sam is keen to bring some of the lesser known guest ales to our taps. When he’s not studying or working, you’ll find him listening to his favourite bands on vinyl, playing his guitar, hanging out with friends at music gigs or curled up with a cuppa, a packet of biscuits and a great book.
